I'm wondering why the pace of life is accelerated here. We work harder (we do...I've seen the other side) and we play harder because of course, "winning is everything". We are a very proud country, as well we should be. We've advanced to be an admired world leader...at least we're admired by ourselves :)
But is there no other pace available in the US ? Just 'fast and furious' ?
I understand the attraction of this pace...the constant quest for excitement and accomplishment. It's fun to be a mover and shaker...or a former mover and shaker...ok, maybe just a wannabee mover and shaker.
I have to say though, it seems pointless and very tiring to me at times.
In France the concept of 'follow-up' in the business world seemed optional. And when the phrase "please hurry" is used, it's always initially assumed, to be an unnecessary and rude remark. As an employee I'd love to support those thoughts. I think if just those two concepts were adopted, it could improve the quality of everyday life. Sure nothing gets done. But it doesn't matter if the customer is also expecting a "I'll get to it when I get to it" response. It's kind of like a big club. It's kind of a slow-moving, under-achieving, pleasure-seeking, wine loving, happy club. Sounds nice, right ? I think it may work best if everyone speaks an obscure and unknown language as well...but I could be wrong on that.
I sometimes wish we could all change to a slower pace. Not really sure how we can start the change though. But I know to do it, we would have to have buy-in from everyone. We could name the club "The Slow-moving, Under-achieving, Pleasure-seeking Happy Club". Got some work to do on the name but..how can we make that happen ?? Maybe if we all tried you imitate the people of the South...say things like "you just take it easy yall" ...hmmm...maybe it really is tied to language!
NOTE: to actually 'make it happen', we would have to initially not have the optional follow-up thing...and we must talk funny
